After viewing the tiny
Prospect Mountain Lower Falls, continue on the trail
for another 0.3 mile (1.0 mile from the trailhead) and
head off trail to your left, about 100 yards to the
stream and waterfall. There are no markers so you might
have to search a little bit.
Note that the waterfalls on this stream
are not named or even marked on any maps that we have
seen. In fact, the stream that they are on are not
named or marked.
Notes from our contributor ...
I have hiked up the Prospect Mountain Trail in Lake
George 4-5 times, the last time being on October 9,
2023. These falls were found on a recent hike
there.
It's a tough 3.5 miles hike
round trip with about a 1,500’ elevation gain. On
this particular hike at about the 1 mile from the
trailhead we heard running water off to our left so
we investigated and found this 8' falls.
I am assuming this is a seasonal or occasional
stream based on rain events, the stream itself does
not show up on any maps I have access to, but this
was a fall time hike so maybe it runs year round, I
cannot be certain. My Strava Map shows a waterway to
the south of the hiking trail but I believe that is
a different waterway. It is probably a safe
assumption that the water finds its way to Lake
George.
If you are not up for the full hike you can
drive up Prospect Mountain Highway (entrance fee may
apply) to the Overlook #1 parking lot. Walk up the
road 1/4 mile to where the trail crosses the road.
Enter the trail to the left (uphill) and follow the
directions above.
