The information and pictures were provided by a contributor,
George Senft of Albany, New York. We have not yet been
here. We would like to thank him for submitting this and
letting us know about it. We would also like to thank
www.everytrail.com. We used their directions to locate
the Black Mountain Trailhead, which is the starting point
indicated in the directions side-bar.
After hiking 0.3 miles on the trail, take the Jeep Trail that
goes around the west side of Sugarloaf Mountain. It
eventually turns west and you reach the creek about 1.4 miles
from the start. Follow the creek downhill 1/3 mile (off
trails) to the falls. George also provided the Bingmaps
image and notes that this may dry up in the summer. This
shot was taken in the spring.
This is an unnamed waterfall on an unnamed creek. Since
the stream isn't named, we have given it this name because the
stream flows within 3000 feet of the peak of Elephant Mountain.
The source of this creek is a little further up the side of
Black Mountain. The first pic in our array is the main waterfall at this
location. The second is a drop at the top of this waterfall.
The final pic is the Bingmaps image of this.
There are other waterfalls on this stream. We have
posted another about 100 yards upstream from this location as
Elephant Mountain Upper Falls.
If anyone else has any information on this area, please feel
free to contact us.
This waterfall is about mid-way on this unnamed creek, which
is not much more that 2.5 miles long, As mentioned, it
starts on the side of Black Mountain and it flows into Lake
George at Cook Bay, near the hamlet of Huletts Landing.
The water from Lake George reaches Lake Champlain through
LaChute.
