First and
foremost, this is private property. On our fist visit
there several years ago, there were a number of posted
signs on the land surrounding the waterfall. On a return
in September 2017, the property was fenced off.
We are
surmising that the owners have experienced the same problem a
number of other private waterfall owners have encountered ... a
disrespectful public crawling all over their land.
As we
have said many times, respect the property owners. You
don't even need to leave the highway right-of-way because the creek is only a few feet off the road
and excellent views and pictures are possible from there.
In fact, the pictures we took on the first trip were taken from the opposite
side of the road.
We have estimated the height of this waterfall at 15' and have
called this a curtain cascade. One could probably argue that
it is a step waterfall, but the top steps are so quick and the lowest
drop is about half the overall drop, which makes that cascade the
prominent feature.
The Timmerman Creek empties into the Mohawk River about 1.9 miles
downstream from this location. This flows into the Hudson
before reaching the Atlantic Ocean.
