Colton Falls
is the second stop on the Stone Valley
Trail as you hike the east side of the river from the parking
area at the Colton Fire Hall. These drops are just below the
Colton Dam. Even with the dam, this is still a beautiful site.
With a drop of 60 to 80 feet over about 200 feet or so of the river,
this slide type waterfall is the beginning of close to a mile of
some pretty magnificent water. Most of the views of this stretch
are from a distance on the trail or downstream, but if you get creative,
there are several routes you can take and actually get stream-side.
The Raquette River empties into the St. Lawrence River in Massena,
New York.
