Directions
Drive southeast on NY 58, a little over 1-1/4 miles
from the intersection of US
11 and NY 58 in Gouverneur. At the Country Club Road,
take a left. Continue straight at the stop sign,
the road will "T" and a right will take you
over a bridge where you will see the dam on your left.
This area is just beyond that.

This location is on the
Island Branch Road in the hamlet of Hailesboro. There is a
power dam located at this site. The river splits at this point
around a very small island. On the road side of this island,
the channel narrows and slides through a sort of flume. Below
that, it turns sharply and goes through many caves before dropping
into the main channel on the other side of the island. When
the water level is low, you can actually go into the caves. The property in this area is all private. The owners
of some of the land in that area have given us permission to access
their part. We are still trying to contact the owners of the
other part we need to get into to get pictures. At this point,
the only pictures we have were provided by landowners. The
Totten family runs a vacation rental and they have given us some
pictures given to them by a family that rented it.
The Oswegatchie River flows into the St. Lawrence River in Ogdensburg,
New York.
