Kirk Douglas Park is one of several parks within
the city of Amsterdam. This one obviously is named to honor
the hometown actor. The park itself might be deceptive to
find without directions since it is surrounded by cement walls and
a number of one-way streets in the area. The waterfall is
actually a series of drops with the primary one being a curtain
cascade that drops about 10'. Below that there is a slide
type drop totally another twenty feet. Both of these sections
are upstream of the Guy Park Avenue Extension bridge. Downstream
of this there is another small section that probably is best described
as a rapids.
The water from the North Chuctanunda Creek makes its way into
the Mohawk River and the Hudson River before reaching the
Atlantic Ocean in New York City.
