This is an unnamed waterfall in the city of Amsterdam.
We have tentatively given it this name because of its location.
It is a rather small cascade below an abandoned concrete dam, near
the intersection of Ellsworth Street and Clizbe Avenue. Access
is a bit difficult, as there's no place to park on Clizbe Avenue
near the cascade. Your best bet is to park on Ellsworth Avenue.
You'll have to hop the guardrail at the side of Clizbe Avenue
and walk down toward the Chuctanunda. Use caution as near
the creek there's about a ten-foot drop to the creek bed.
Just above the cascade is an old concrete dam. Below the
cascade the creek carves more deeply into the rock as the ledges
approach 20 feet or so.
The height of the banks above the
cascade and the foliage make it difficult to photograph. It's
a nice spot though, as the trees create a canopy over the creek
bank and there are good views of the cascade, the dam, and the downstream
rock ledges.
The water from the North Chuctanunda Creek makes
its way into the Mohawk River and the Hudson River before reaching
the Atlantic Ocean in New York City.
