One of several sections of waterfalls or rapids on the lower
part of the Moose River, this site is just upstream from the intersection
of the Lowdale and Lyonsdale Roads. It can be seen from the
parking lot of the Burrow's Paper Company or from a one-lane bridge
on the Lowdale Road that crosses the river there.
This set of falls undoubtedly gets its name from the fact that
it drops in two-steps, hence Double Drop. Having said that,
in high water in the spring, it may be difficult to distinguish
the drops.
This stretch of the river is very popular with the kayak community.
The Moose River flows into the Black River just a few miles downstream
from this location in Lyons Falls. The Black empties into
Lake Ontario in the Jefferson County community of Dexter.
