The trailhead of the Huntley Pond/Blue Ledge Trail is just before
reaching Huntley Pond. Note that the access to this waterfall
is the same as for Virgin Falls.
The first 0.6 mile of this trail more or less parallels the south
side of Huntley Pond. At that point, the trail turns and heads
southwest for about 1000 feet where it then heads west. In
another 0.6 mile or so, the trail takes a sharp left and heads south
and up a steep hill. When you get on the level, you will hear
the Hudson River. At this point, you should find a way down
the hill to the right. This will be to the northwest.
You will come to the Huntley Pond outlet in about 1500'. The
creek will actually go under ground and you can cross over it on
this "land bridge".
Virgin
Falls will be just downstream of where the creek resurfaces,
within sight of the Hudson River.
Continue past Virgin Falls upstream along the banks of the Hudson
for another 0.4 miles and you will come to the Mink Pond outlet.
Just upstream from the outlet, you will find this waterfall.
If anyone has any pictures of these waterfalls, we would be very
interested in hearing
from you.
The outlet of the Mink Pond flows into the Hudson River which
flows into the Atlantic Ocean at New York City.
Note: It has just come to our attention that this waterway
is actually the Nate Pond Brook. Maps show Nate Pond Brook
connecting the Mink Pond to the Nate Pond, further upstream.
This section is not labeled at all on maps so we dubbed it the Mink
Pond Outlet. Apparently the entire stream is Nate Pond Brook.
Our thanks to Art Harris of Hudson Falls who contacted us with information
about reaching this site.
