Although technically unnamed, we have dubbed this
waterfall the MacIntyre Brook Falls because of its location.
Russell Dunn, in his "Adirondack Waterfall Guide" calls
this the Cascade on Trail to Algonquin Peak.
Follow the Van Hoevenberg Trail, which starts near the parking
area at the Adirondack Loj, for 0.9 miles. Then go straight
on the Algonquin Peak for 1.7 miles. The falls come down right
to the trail.
If anyone has any information or pictures of these waterfalls,
we would be very interested in
hearing from
you.
The MacIntyre Brook flows through a number of beaver ponds and
swamps before entering Marcy Brook. This flows into the West
Branch of the Ausable River. The west branch joins forces
with the east branch in Ausable Forks. The combined Ausable
River empties into Lake Champlain in the town of Peru.
Our thanks to John Holmes of Massena, New York for his photo
contributions. His photos show the contrast between the
harse winters of this area and the drying effects of late
summer.
The Heart Lake area by the Adirondack Loj provides the access
for Rocky Falls, MacIntyre Brook Falls, Indian Falls and the Lake
Colden Tributary Falls. Considering the length of the hike
to these areas, you might want to consider grouping these together.
