Directions
From US 11 in downtown Canton, turn on Park
Street and proceed past St. Lawrence University. As
you leave the village, Park Street becomes CR 27.
The first intersection is a four-way stop. Take a
right on CR 25. After crossing into the town of Russell,
look for the Dutton Road on the left. A short
distance down this road, you will cross the Little River.
The waterfall is less than 1/4 mile downstream.

We discovered this waterfall by accident and we must stress that
it is on private property. When we visited the Wallace
Mill Falls just below a bridge on the Dutton Road in the town of
Russell, we discovered that a long-time friend lived adjacent to
that waterfall. We went to his home to pick his brain
about it, he told us about another falls downstream. That
one was on a neighbor's land and he guided us to it. As it
turns out, this neighbor is also a long-time friend, and former
co-worker, of this site's webmaster.
Our research
indicates that this falls is unnamed. Since there are two
other falls in this area on the Little River, for cataloging
purposes, we are choosing to call it the North Russell Falls.
It is in the region of that hamlet.
The stream cuts
through some boulders here and takes a hard right before
plunging into a pool that then takes a turn left. The bad
news is that the best part of this waterfall is hidden behind
one of these boulders and couldn't be seen from where we were.
To get a clear view of this, you have to ford the river.
On our visit here, although we were prepared for hiking, we were
not prepared for wading! A return trip is planned for June
2016 to get those pictures.
The Little River feeds into the Grasse River just south of the
village of Canton near CR 25. The Grasse River empties into
the St. Lawrence River in Massena, in St. Lawrence County.
