This is a small unnamed waterfall in the middle of the village
of Chaumont. There are a few very small step-type drops on
the upstream side of the bridge. Just downstream of the bridge,
the creek drops in a number of steps over and through some large
boulders in the streambed.
The home adjacent to the waterfall and the commercial buildings
on the other side of the creek are all owned by the same man, a
local businessman. His business partner gave us permission
to access the land. Although you can see the main part of
this waterfall from the roadside, you are looking over the crest
at this point and really do not have a good vantage point.
Even by accessing the property, photo ops were not that positive.
The creek flows through a section here where the banks are extremely
steep. There is a section where you could physically get down
to the creek level, but it is so overgrown there that bushwhacking
would be necessary, and we were unfortunately not prepared for that.
A return trip is in order to get better pictures from below.
Horse Creek flows into Sawmill Bay just a few yards from this
waterfall. This is a small bay off Chaumont Bay, a large
bay on Lake Ontario.
