This
is the second of three waterfalls within close proximity of each
other. Although we refer to this as the Middle Falls, we
have also seen it called the Second Fall. It is about 0.1
mile
beyond the Lower Falls. As mentioned in the account for
Groff Creek Lower Falls,
many hiking guide sites tell you to climb back up the embankment
and proceed on the trail to the Middle Falls. We found it
easier to hike upstream along the embankment to get there.
You will, however, have to scale the embankment back to the
trail to continue to the Upper Falls.
This ribbon cascade
drops an estimated 30'. As with the Lower Falls, this one also
drops in a series of steps. Foliage is an issue in getting
good pictures. In addition, a lot of downed trees have
accumulated over the past few years which also blocks your view.
From here, climb back up the
embankment and continue upstream to the next waterfall. The Groff Creek flows into the Sacandaga River about 3/4 of a
mile from this location. The Sacandaga Flows through the Great
Sacandaga Lake and merges with the Hudson River in Lake Luzerne.
The Hudson empties into the Atlantic Ocean in New York City.
