We are looking for input from others who might be familiar
with this area, in particular, this waterfall. Our
information is that this waterfall is about 2.5 miles from the
beginning of the trail at NY 8, where you would access both
Jimmy
Creek Lower Falls and
Jimmy Creek
Falls. That is the only information
we have on it.
We have had this entry listed on this website for several
years. Although we have been to Jimmy Creek and Jimmy
Creek Lower Falls, we have never had an opportunity to get up to
this one. At this point, we are looking to see if it
actually exists!
We learned of its supposed existence many years ago but
recently have been discussing this among the waterfall
community. I spoke with John Haywood in August 2021 and he
told me that someone he knew had hiked about two miles up this
trail and did not find it. Our information is that it is
2.5 miles beyond this two roadside falls. Furthermore, our
information is that it is only about four feet tall. I am
wondering if anyone on this trail either didn't go far enough or
perhaps found it too small to be a waterfall!
If anyone has any information about this waterfall, we would
be very interested in
hearing from
you.
This Jimmy Creek flows into the east branch of the Sacandaga
River which joins the main branch about one mile downstream from
that point. The Sacandaga River flows through a number of
lakes as it makes its way to the Hudson River whose final destination
is the Atlantic ocean.
Note: There are two Jimmy Creeks in the town of Wells.
The other one enters the west branch of the Sacandaga River about
eight miles from where this one enters the east branch, but they
are totally independent of each other. Due to their proximity
to each other, this one is typically referred to as the East Jimmy
Creek and the other the West Jimmy Creek. That is a logical
but unofficial distinction. Topographical maps simply label
them both Jimmy Creek.
