This waterfall is a little over two miles upstream from the very
popular Pixley Falls. There is a roadside pull-off on the east side of the highway.
A foot bridge is visible from the road. As you walk toward the
bridge, bear to the right of the creek and follow the steep foot trail
leading down to the base of the falls. This
waterfall is on an unnamed stream that
enters Lansing Kill immediately across from Lansing Kill Falls.
Many sources indicate that this waterway is formed by a "waste
weir" on the Black River Canal. That may have been at one
point, but the canal hasn't been in operation for several
decades and this waterway still exists so we are going with the
theory that this is an unnamed stream that follows a portion of
the route of the former canal. Many maps still label this
as the Black River Canal.
This is a very intriguing area for the waterfaller. At
the base of this falls, you are literally looking at two very
nice waterfalls. Bakers Falls enters Lansing Kill at the
base of Lansing Kill Falls. Our thanks to Stacy Brown for
submitting these pictures. Our only trip here was in
mid-April and, although our photos show a lot of water, there is
no color. They are not very appealing to view!
Having said all of this, there is a recent twist to this
story. In April 2020, we received an email from a viewer
with information. He owns a property just north of this
Bakers Falls which contains two waterfalls. He believes
that one of them is the Bakers Falls as described in a number of
historical documents. Based on a number of issues, we tend
to agree with him.
Many people who chase waterfalls in New York State know and
recognize this location as Bakers Falls. Rather than rock
the boat, we are going to dub this other location as
Old Bakers Falls.
Please read our account on that location.
Lansing Kill flows into the Mohawk River. This empties
into the Hudson River which flows into the Atlantic Ocean.
