From this parking area,
walk toward the back of the facility. There is a dirt road
going up the hill.
There is a registration kiosk at the top of the hill.
Enter the trail immediately behind the kiosk.
The main waterfall is no more than 200 feet up the trail.
According to some personnel we spoke with there, it is about 30'
tall. If it weren't known as Stag Brook Falls, one might
easily name it Fan Falls or something to this effect. It
starts out narrow at the top and fans out to its widest point at
the base.
This is the only large waterfall on the brook. The last
two pictures in the array are of the drop below this falls.
At this location, you are at the base of Whiteface Mountain.
There is a lot of "upstream" above this drop. The people
we spoke with also told us that the brook above is pretty much
like that section below ... one continuous drop after another.
The Stag Brook flows into the West Branch of the Ausable
River about 1/2 mile downstream from this location. This
merges with the east branch a few miles downstream in Au Sable
Forks. The combined Ausable River empties into Lake
Champlain in the town of Peru.
