High Falls

Directions

Just east of the hamlet of Pitcairn, which is east of Harrisville, look for the Jayville Road, which exits south from NY 3.  Coming from the east on Route 3, it is 3.9 miles from the intersection of St. Lawrence County Route 23.  Drive up this road for 1/2 mile and the falls will be on the right.

The Jenny Creek, which is no more than 4.8 miles long, contains at least four waterfalls on about a two mile stretch of the waterway.  This one is the one most downstream and, although it is not officially named and is not noted on topographical maps, we believe it is known locally as High Falls.

We really know very little about this waterfall but are in the process of researching it.  We have actually driven by this location several times but foliage usually obscures it from the road.  This, as well as the fact that it is at the bottom of a steep ravine, made its existence unknown to us.  on a drive by in April 2013, we saw it through the leaf-less trees.  It appears to be a significant waterfall.  Although the view is not great through the trees, topographical maps show several contour lines clustered together at this point.  It could be a 30-50' drop, but this is a guess.

The reason we suspect it is known as High Falls is because posted signs along the road here indicate a High Falls Club.  We are trying to make contact with representatives but do not have contact information, only a town that they are located in.  Since the entire area is posted, we have not attempted to hike into it.

The Jenny Creek flows into the Big Creek which flows into the West Branch of the oswegathchie River.  This joins the main channel of the oswegatchie near the hamlet of Talcville in the town of Edwards.  From here it flows into the St. Lawrence River in ogdensburg.
