Mt. Matumbla Quadrangle

This is an officially named stretch of rapids on the Raquette River just northwest of the hamlet of Piercefield.  As we have so often mentioned, there is no clear definition of a waterfall and no real distinction between a falls and rapids.  As these pictures show, the drops in these rapids are significant enough that we have seen waterfalls that weren't as tall!

It is our understanding that there is public access on both sides of the river here but the main trail to this stretch is on private property.  Our information and photos were sent in by a contributor.

The Raquette River empties into the St. Lawrence River in Massena, New York.
