Wallace Mill Falls

Directions

From US 11 in downtown Canton, turn on Park Street and proceed past St. Lawrence University.  As you leave the village, Park Street becomes CR 27.  The first intersection is a four-way stop.  Take a right on CR 25.  After crossing into the town of Russell, look for the Dutton Road on the left.   A short distance down this road, you will cross the Little River.  The waterfall is just downstream from this location.

Canton Quadrangle

This is an unnamed waterfall that is listed on the World Waterfall Database as Canton Falls. We have opted to not call this Canton Falls because it is not in Canton, either the village or the town.  Rather, we have dubbed it the Wallace Mill Falls because it is located at a site of a former mill run by a Mr. Wallace.  Because we know people who live in this area, we were allowed access to the site.

Although the mill is long gone, there are still remnants of pieces of the mill.  There is now a very nice slide waterfall just below what is left of the dam.  It was either knocked down or simply deteriorated over time.

The Little River feeds into the Grass River just south of the village of Canton near CR 25.  The Grass River empties into the St. Lawrence River in Massena, in St. Lawrence County.
