Northern New York Waterfalls ... Cascade Falls

Moshier Lower Falls #1

Directions

In the village of Lowville, less than 1/4 mile south of the intersection of NY 12 and NY 26, NY 12 crosses the Mill Creek.  Just south of here, take River Street east.   This becomes the Number Four Road.  As you come through Watson, Millers Meat Market will be on your left.  Just past this, you will take a left-hand turn to stay on the Number Four Road!  Continue another 15.3 miles where you should take a right on the Stillwater Road.  In about two miles from here, take a left on the Moshier Road.  At 0.6 mile, there is a parking area on the right.

Number Four Quadrangle

We are still researching this location.  At the end of this road, there is a gate.  This is the hike one would take to get to Moshier Falls.  USGS topographical maps of this area show four waterfalls downstream of Moshier Falls.  We have also been told of their existence by people working in that area who didn't know specific locations.

Since the property between the river and the trail is posted by Brookfield Power who runs the hydro facility in that area, we can only assume that river access would be the only option.  It is our understanding that this area is opened periodically for whitewater activity so it is doable.

We have dubbed this waterfall Moshier Lower Falls #1.  It is the first waterfall indicated on maps below Moshier, a little over 1600 feet downstream of it.  Although topographical maps show a waterfall at this location, neither Bing Maps or Google Maps show anything resembling a waterfall there.

If anyone has any information on locating these waterfalls, or pictures of them, please contact us.

The Beaver River flows into the Black River, which empties into Lake ontario at the Black River Bay, just southwest of the village of Dexter.
